As a former publisher of a nationally award-winning family magazine, I was responsible for coming up with event ideas, planning, coordinating and executing all the logistics of multiple large community events - including camp fairs, family health expos, cover kid contests, women's expos and fundraising events for several local non-profits. With a small staff of only five people and some event day volunteers all our events were all extremely successful. I was personally responsible for securing the event facility, securing all levels of event sponsors, selling vendor booths, designing the layout for the event as well as all the promotional materials - including copywriting, layout design and overseeing print production. I also arranged and conducted several local media interviews to get publicity for the events. I secured all the event emcees, entertainment and speakers, and actually emceed several events myself. I was the "go to" person for basically everything. Event management is one of my favorite parts of the different positions I've held throughout my career.
In addition to planning and organizing events, as a marathoner and avid runner, I participate in many sporting events that raise funds and awareness for local charities and causes. My participation in these events has definitely given me an eye for good event management and the importance of paying attention to the small details.
